Skonaj ty serce
 (Sung text for setting by W. Żeleński)
 Matches original text
Language: Polish (Polski)
Skonaj ty serce wprzód, nimby cię miano
Zdeptać szyderczo, lub karmić jałmużną;
Nie patrz już w przeszłość – umarli nie wstaną,
Ani patrz w przyszłość – pocóż czekać próżno?

W ciosaną z marzeń i tęsknoty trumnę
Włożone zaśnij i śpij nieprzespanie,
Na ból za martwe, na skargę za dumne –
Śpij – oto słońce zaszło i nie wstanie.

Composition:

    Set to music by Władysław Marcjan Mikołaj Żeleński (1837 - 1921), "Skonaj ty serce", c1891 [ voice and piano ]

Text Authorship:

  • by Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer (1865 - 1940), no title, appears in Preludja, no. 40
