Liebe plaudert nicht
 (Sung text for setting by H. Esser)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Unterm grünen Lindenbaum
Haben Zwei vollkommen Raum,
Vöglein hoch im laub'gen Dach
Lauscht und singt, doch sagt nichts nach.

An des Sees Uferrand
Können gehn wir Hand in Hand;
Welle wogt im Wellenschlag
Still vorbei, doch sagt nichts nach.

Einsam es im Walde ist,
Wald nicht sieht es, wer dich küßt;
Was die Lippe Liebes sprach,
Wind, der hört's, doch sagt nichts nach.

Wald und Vögel, Well' und Wind,
Alle wohl verschwiegen sind;
Wie's die Liebe treiben mag,
Liebe plaudert es nicht nach.

Composition:

    Set to music by Heinrich Esser (1818 - 1872), "Liebe plaudert nicht", published 1844 [ voice and piano ], Mainz, Schott

Text Authorship:

  • by August Ferdinand Meyer (1811 - 1894), as Brunold, "Liebe plaudert nicht! "
