Abendlied
(Sung text for setting by H. Esser)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Abendglocken läuten
Zur Ruh' den müden Tag,
Nur noch ein leises Echo
Klingt tief im Herzen nach.

Es wird so dämm'rungsselig,
So friedensstill die Welt,
Die schweigend der Odem Gottes
In seinen Armen hält.

Da deckt mit wallendem Schleier
die Nacht sie leise zu
Und legt des Herzens Sehnen
Und seinen Schmerz zur Ruh'.

Schließt euch nun auch, ihr Augen,
Schließt euch der stillen Nacht:
Am Himmel Gottes Augen,
Die Sterne, sind erwacht.
