In der Kirche
 (Sung text for setting by C. Loewe)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Auf der Bank, wo sie sonst sitzet,
Sitzt ein Engelein, das blitzet
Im Gewande lilienweiß,
Betet vor sich hin mit Fleiß:

Herr Gott, du wallst vergönnen!
Sie hat heut' nicht kommen können,
Da es geht in ihrem Haus
Gar notwendig überaus;

Hat sie mich geschickt, mit Beten
Ihre Stelle zu vertreten;
Höre gnädig mein Gebet,
Gleich als ob sie's selber tät'!

Composition:

    Set to music by Carl Loewe (1796 - 1869), "In der Kirche", op. 62, Heft 2 no. 2 (1837)
