Højtid
(Sung text for setting by E. Alnæs)
 Matches base text
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Nu klokker ringer
med bud om freden...
Og julens høitid paa hvite vinger
helt stille synker
indover leden.

Til hjem og kammer
er julen kommen.
Og tændt er tusinde blanke flammer
som lys fra oven,
fra helligdommen.

Og barneglade
og høitidsstemte
man iler hjem fra den travle gade.
Og ingen ænser
den tungt forglemte.

Og ingen kjenner,
hvor smerten stinger
den arme djævel foruten venner,
som længselen brænder,
naar klokken ringer.

Men ring i klokker,
bær bud om freden,
mens mørk og motløs jeg fremad sjokker
saa høitidssagte
mot evigheten.
