Han kom da hun var som en lilje saa blek.
Han gik, da hun rødmet i søvn efter lek:
Rose i knop.
Men snart vil to vaagnende øine
se efter fuglen, den fløine.
Solen staar op.

Der dufter syrin – og der stiger et gny
av alle de fugler paa jord og i sky.
Kjærtegn og sang.
Og nys under nattens narkose
er mangen en knop blit rose
endnu engang.

Han knuger en klase av hvit syrin,
det er som han sluker en haand med sin.
Lin mellem klør.
Det er som han lukker haanden
om uskyld som opgir aanden.
Uskyld som dør.

Han tenker paa haven fra hvilken han gik,
paa liljer han ranet, paa roser han fik,
tænker paa alt:
Uskyld, rose og lilje
fulgte sin sommers vilje
blomstret og faldt.
