Lied des gefangenen Königs
 (Sung text for setting by F. Fröhlich)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Mit meinem Vater, dem Kaiser,
Gern zög' ich in's blutge Feld:
Zu Häupten Lorbeerreiser,
Zu Füßen uns die Welt.

Mit meiner Frauen im Lenze
Gern säß' ich am Eichenstamm:
Zu Häupten Blumenkränze,
Zu Füßen uns ein Lamm.

Die Beiden, weh!  zerstäubten;
Der König ist allein;  --
Legt im einen Stein zu Häupten,
Zu Füßen ihm einen Stein.

Composition:

    Set to music by Friedrich Theodor Fröhlich (1803 - 1836), "Lied des gefangenen Königs", op. 13 (Lieder im Volkston für vier Männerstimmen) no. 9 [ four-part men's chorus a cappella ], Berlin: Gustav Bethge
