Vor verden er jo ofte saa skoddetung og sur.
Og barnesind er fange i laenke og i bur.
Og örnenoeb vil hugge, og högeklo vil slaa,
Og gjerne vil de store blistörre ved de smaa.

Saa var det, at Vorherre som julebarn steg ned
og lyste over jorden sin himmelbaarne fred.
Han kom al törre taarer, han kom at stanse graad.
Han kom at redde livet, somikke vidste raad.

Og alt imens juleneg löftes paa sin stang,
saa banker der et hjerte mod vintertidens trang.
Og alt imens et julevers stiger ifra bryst,
saa mindes bange hjerter om julebudets lyst.
