Wenn der Herbswind weht und in Wald und Feld
alles öde wird und kahl,
zieht das Berglandkind in die weite Welt
aus dem stillen Heimattal.

Elternhaus, ade, bleib' in Gottes Hut
mit den trauten Lieben mein!
Tut das Herz auch weh', auf mit frischem Mut,
einmal muss geschieden sein!

Habt nicht Sorg' und Leid, wenn ich ferne bin,
Gottes Hand schirmt überall;
wenn zur Frühlingszeit Schwalben heimwärts zieh'n,
kehr' auch ich zum Heimattal.
