Alles können sie ergründen
(Sung text for setting by L. Greger)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Alles können sie ergründen
In den Tälern, auf den Höh'n
ob sich Sterne wiederfinden,
ob sich Welten wiederseh'n.

Von des Frühlings Wiederkehren
Wissen sie wohl Tag und Stund',
möchten selbst den Stern belehren,
Der den rechten Weg nicht fund.

Doch wenn zwei sich trennen müssen
Und wenn Eins vom Andern geht:
Frag die weisesten, sie wissen
Nicht, wann ihr euch wiederseht.

Note: this text is, with some deviations, cited in Heinich Seidel, Gesammelte Werke, in the novel "Von Perlin nach Berlin"; Seidel states he had heard the poem somewhere, but gives no author.

Composition:

Set to music by Luise Greger (1862 - 1944), "Alles können sie ergründen", op. 120 no. 30, published 1926 [ voice and piano ], from Volkstümliche Lieder, no. 30, Kassel: W. Simon
