Een Knaap, die op een dag vol zonnelicht 
Van twee verliefden las en al hun leed,
Hoe zij elkaar beminden en hoe wreed 
een booze Geest hen scheidde - en die 't gedicht 

Verloor, toen 't half pas uit was  en niets deed 
Dan zoeken, dag aan dag, maar vond het niet ,
En die toen, levenslang, dacht aan 't verdriet 
Des Ridders  en der Jonkvrouw bitter leed: -

Zoo zal ik ook zijn als ik u niet zie,
En zoeken zal ik, wàar de zomer is 
en zang van vogelen en zonneschijn;  -

Maar zoekend zal ik toch niet eenzaam zijn,
Want úw beeld zweeft, als in geheimenis,
Door àller lied'ren hoogste melodie.-
