Gondolier‑Sång
(Sung text for setting by I. Hallström)
 Matches base text
Language: Swedish (Svenska)
Amor hviska i mitt öra,
hvar gondolen stanna skall
Tyst, att ingen det kan höra,
tyst som silverdaggens fall.
Dock, nu viker jag till venster:
se, Lauretta i sitt fenster,
skön, men ack, så hård och kall!

Vinkar du, så vill jag komma
nära till altanens rand
kasta till dig denna blomma,
bruten uppå Brentas strand.
När i natt jag återvänder,
låt mig blott på dina händer
svalka mina läppars brand!

Composition:

Set to music by Ivar Hallström (1826 - 1901), "Gondolier-Sång" [ voice and piano ], from 4 Sånger för en röst och piano, no. 1, note: composed as an interlude for Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice (Köpmannen i Venedig)
