Ich hatt' einmal ein Lied
 (Sung text for setting by M. Schnorr von Carolsfeld)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich hatt' einmal ein Lied,
das sang ich spät und früh;
es war ein schönes Lied
nach schöner Melodie.

Es klang so süß und hehr
wie himmlisches Gedicht;
ich sing' das Lied nicht mehr -
vergessen hab' ich's nicht.

Note for stanza 2, line 3, last two words (Schnorr von Carolsfeld's setting): in the repetition, "nicht mehr" becomes "nie mehr"

Composition:

    Set to music by Malvina Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1825 - 1904), "Ich hatt' einmal ein Lied" [ voice and piano ]

Text Authorship:

  • by Ernst Koch (1808 - 1858), as Eduard Helmer, Dr., "Ich hatt' einmal ein Lied", appears in Prinz Rosa-Stramin
