Abendfriede
(Sung text for setting by A. Wallnöfer)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie ist der Abend so traulich,
Wie lächelnd der Tag verschied;
Wie singen so herzlich erbaulich
die Vögel ihr Abendlied!

Die Blumen müssen schweigen,
Kein Ton ist Blumen beschert,
Doch, stille Beter, neigen
Sie alle das Haupt zur Erd'.

Wohin ich gehe und schaue,
Ist Abendandacht. Im Strom
Spiegelt sich auch der blaue
Prächtige Himmelsdom.

Und alles betet lebendig
Um eine selige Ruh,
Und alles mahnt mich inständig:
O Menschenkind, bete auch du!

Composition:

Set to music by Adolf Wallnöfer (1854 - 1946), "Abendfriede", op. 56 no. 2 [ voice and piano ]
