Mir ist es oft, als ob die Erde sich jetzt atemleise meinem Blick entzöge, und eine fremde Landschaft tritt für sie, wie eine Bilderschrift, um alles Schauen. Wohl weiß ich noch die Namen aller Dinge und sage: Wolke, Tauwind, Birnbaum, Mond! - doch haftet jedem solche Sanftmut an, wie früher nur dem Bild der toten Mutter. Und auch die neue Gegend ist verschlossen gleich einem Garten, den ein Herr bewohnt, der mich erwartet für viel spät're Zeit. Das lässt mich nun in allem so allein, dass ich mich manchmal aus mir selber hebe, um was Vertrautes in den Raum zu tun, aus dem die Erde atemleise flieht.
