Du Knabe ziehst das Tal entlang
hell singend deinen Weg;
verborgen lausch' ich dir schon lang'
in Wald- und Buschgeheg'.

Der blaue Himmel hier umfasst
zwei glückliche Herzen zumal;
ihm dankt hier oben stille Rast
und Wanderglück im Tal.

    Set to music by Julius Becker (1811 - 1859), "Die Glücklichen", op. 21 (6 dreistimmige Lieder für Alt (Mezzo-Sopran), Tenor und Bass mit beliebiger Begleitung des Pianoforte) no. 5, published 1840 [ three-part chorus with piano ], Leipzig, Breitkopf und Härtel
