Aquela moça
(Sung text for setting by L. Freitas Branco)
 See original
Language: Portuguese (Português)
Aquela que mora em frente
é uma moça indiferente,
não sei que mistério tem:
não chega nunca à janela,
ninguém olha para ela,
nem ela para ninguém.

Mas dizem que a horas mortas,
fechadas todas as portas
da vizinhança, ela sai,
e ao cemitério chorosa
vai desfolhar uma rosa
por sobre a campa do pai.

Note for the last two lines of the poem: one score of Freitas Branco preserves historical Portuguese spelling conventions used before modern orthographic standardization, showing "vai" as "vae" and "pai" as "pae".

Composition:

Set to music by Luís de Freitas Branco (1890 - 1955), "Aquela moça" [ voice and piano ], note: some scores use the older spelling 'Aquella moça'

Text Authorship:

  • by Augusto de Lima (1859 - 1934), "Sonâmbula"
