Schön Röslein
(Sung text for setting by L. Lenz)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich sah an deinem Herzen
ein Röslein prangen schön.
Solch Röslein, solche Wangen
hab' nimmer ich geseh'n.

Wohl tat's dem Röslein wehe,
dass es gebrochen ward,
doch dass du es gewesen,
macht's Leid ihm minder hart.

Das Röslein schmiegt sich sehnend
an deinen Busen an,
als wollt' es leise sagen:
Warum hast du's getan?

Wie gleicht dein Bild der Rose:
So voll und liebesrot,
doch morgen schon gepflücket,
verwelket - blass - und tot!

Composition:

Set to music by Leopold Lenz (1803 - 1862), "Schön Röslein", op. 43 no. 1 [ vocal duet with piano ], from Gedichte von Carl Schultes und Hoffmann von Fallersleben, no. 1

Text Authorship:

  • by Carl Schultes (1822 - 1904), "Schön Röslein"
