Barcarole
(Sung text for setting by L. Schlösser)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Komm, Liebchen! Schon zittert
Der Mond auf den Wellen;
Sie flüstern und schwellen
Und fragen nach dir.
Sie fragen: wo weilt sie?
Mit Braus und Getöse.
O mach' sie nicht böse!
Komm, Nice, zu mir!

Nun wiegt sich die Gondel,
Nun hüpfet und säuselt,
Vom Zephyr durchkräuselt,
Die lauliche Fluth.
Sie naht sich. -- Ich höre
Bescheiden und lüstern,
Ihr Wellen, euch flüstern.
Mir brauset das Blut.

Der Doge mag schlafen
In goldener Kammer,
Geängstet vom Jammer
Der einsamen Macht.
Ich lobe mein Reich mir,
Den traulichen Nachen,
Wo Liebende wachen
In leuchtender Nacht!
