Der Maler
(Sung text for setting by J. Weismann)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Mir träumte, ich stände als Maler
Vor meiner Staffelei,
Und malte, süsses Liebchen,
Dein schönes Konterfei.

Der Stirne sanfte Wölbung,
Das wallend gold'ne Haar,
die frischen Rosenlippen
Gelangen wunderbar.

Die Augen nur verfehlt' ich --
Die blickten mich freundlich an,
Freundlich und Liebverheißend,
Wie sie es nie gethan.

Composition:

Set to music by Julius Weismann (1879 - 1950), "Der Maler", op. 5 (Acht Lieder) no. 2 (1899/1902) [ voice and piano ]

Text Authorship:

  • by Josef Pollhammer (1832 - 1903), "Der Maler", appears in Gedichte, in Blätter der Liebe, Wien und Leipzig: Hartleben's Verlags-Expedition, first published 1863
