Mondnacht
 (Sung text for setting by O. Dresel)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
In die Nacht, die sternenklare,
Schauen trunken meine Augen,
Schlummernd regen sich die Bäume,
Flüstern träumend mit einander.

Leise zieh'n die gold'nen Sterne
Über ihren Häuptern weiter;
Und der Mond streut Träum' und Frieden
Lächelnd auf die Erde nieder.

Mir auch wallet seines Lächelns
Reinster Segen in die Seele,
Und ich höre deine Stimme
Träumend durch die Bäume Rauschen.

Composition:

    Set to music by Otto Dresel (1826 - 1890), "Mondnacht", 1849, published 1892

Text Authorship:

  • by (Karl) Wilhelm Osterwald (1820 - 1887), "Mondnacht", appears in Gedichte, in 1. Erstes Buch: Lieder, no. 13, first published 1848
