Die Verlassene
(Sung text for setting by J. Rheinberger)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Fahr hin, fahr hin, du falscher Mann
Und eile fort zur Lust
In einem andern Liebesbann,
An eine andre Brust!

Getäuscht, betrogen hast du mich,
Die Mühe war nicht groß;
Ich glaubte, was so wonniglich
Dem lieben Mund entfloss!

Betrogen hast die Treue du,
Gebrochen ihr das Herz,
Genommen Glück und Seelenruh,
Gelassen nur den Schmerz.

Fahr hin mit heitrem Angesicht
Und lass mich nur allein!
Die Freude kann dir süßer nicht
Als mir das Sterben sein!

O, holde Ruh, wenn ich dahin,
Von allem Leid genas,
Von aller Welt vergessen bin,
Still unterm grünen Gras.
