August, tot U is God vaandaag
zielzoekend neêrgekomen,
en heeft uw hert tot woonsteê, voor
den eersten keer, genomen.
 
Hij blijve daar, 't zij wat er ook
dat herte komt bekoren:
die Hem verliest heeft meer als al
dat dierbaar is verloren.
 
Hij leeft, Adolf, die God, die u
Hemzelven heeft gegeven;
de weg is Hij, de waarheid, en
de bron van 't eeuwig leven.
 
Leeft ook dan, en, behoort het lijf
der aarde, uw' ziele drage
dien God des levens levend voort,
zoo nu, zoo te allen dage!
