Alte Träume
 (Sung text for setting by R. von Hornstein)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Alte Träume kommen wieder
In dem fernen fremden Land,
Und die alten lieben Lieder
Nehm' ich wieder in die Hand.

O ihr schönen Jugendtage,
Wundervolle Frühlingszeit,
Süße Schmerzen, teure Klage,
Jugend - o du Herrlichkeit!

Zwar, was damals uns durchglühte,
Ward zur Tat aus Wunsch und Traum,
Aber lieblich wie die Blüte
Däucht die reife Frucht uns kaum.

Schöner war die trübe Schwüle,
Als die helle Kühle jetzt;
Jene frühen Vollgefühle,
Kennst du was, das sie ersetzt?
