Hat auch mein Engel keine Pflicht mehr...
(Sung text for setting by A. Banlaky)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Hat auch mein Engel keine Pflicht mehr,
seit ihn mein strenger Tag vertrieb,
oft senkt er sehnend sein Gesicht her
und hat die Himmel nicht mehr lieb.

Er möchte wieder aus armen Tagen
über Wälder rauschendem Ragen
meine blassen Gebete tragen
in die Heimat der Cherubim.

Dorthin trug er mein frühes Weinen
und Bedanken, und meine kleinen
Leiden wuchsen dorten zu Hainen,
welche flüstern über ihm...

Composition:

Set to music by Akos Banlaky (b. 1966), "Hat auch mein Engel keine Pflicht mehr...", first performed 2009 [ mezzo-soprano and piano trio ], from Liedphantasie no. 4: Engellieder, no. 4

Text Authorship:

  • by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926), no title, written 1898, appears in Frühe Gedichte, in Engellieder, no. 3, first published 1899
