Seine Hände blieben wie blinde
Vögel, die, um Sonne betrogen,
wenn die andern über die Wogen
zu den währenden Lenzen zogen,
in der leeren, entlaubten Linde
wehren müssen dem Winterwinde.

Auf seinen Wangen war die Scham
der Bräute, die über der Seele Schrecken
dunkle Purpurdecken
breiten dem Bräutigam.

Und in den Augen lag
Glanz von dem ersten Tag, -
aber weit über allem war
ragend das tragende Flügelpaar...
