Abendruhe
 (Sung text for setting by Albert)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
So still, wie rings die Wipfel
Still ward ich, wie die Luft,
Als ich auf Berges Gipfel
Einsog den Abendduft.

Auch nicht ein Blättchen regte
An meiner Seite sich;
Kein Sternbild mich bewegte,
Deß Glanz herniederschlich.

Und nicht konnt' ich nur sagen,
Was nur so wohl mir thu';
Im Still'n mußt' ich ertragen
Die stille süsse Ruh.

Composition:

    Set to music by Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Gotha, Prince (1819 - 1861), "Abendruhe", 1835-41 [ voice and piano ]

Text Authorship:

  • by (Christian) Wilhelm von Schütz (1776 - 1847), "Abendruhe"
