To maa man være, om Livet skal lykkes
(Sung text for setting by V. Henriques)
 Matches original text
Language: Danish (Dansk)
To må man være om livet skal lykkes,
to når vårt kjærlighets tempel skal bygges.
To når det stormer og to i det stille,
to for at kunne og to for at ville.

To må man være for livet at fatte,
to for dets lys og dets gleder at skatte,
to for at nyte og to for at gavne,
to for at elske og to for at favne.

To må man være når verden vil true,
to for i stillhet, mot himlen at skue,
to for å leve i ungdom og sommer
to for at dø, når dødstimen kommer.
Henriques adds "To må man være, to!"

Composition:

Set to music by Valdemar Fini Henriques (1867 - 1940), "To maa man være, om Livet skal lykkes", published 1920 [ voice and piano ], W. H. Ett.
