by Marceline Desbordes-Valmore (1786 - 1859)

Le Trèfle à quatre feuilles
Language: French (Français)
Tu fais de longs jours,
Qui chantent toujours,
Trèfle, à qui te cueille.

Tu portes bonheur
Et sauves le cœur
Qui bat sous ta feuille.

Talisman des rois,
Je trouve une fois
Ton étoile verte !

Grondent donc souvent
Grêle, pluie, et vent
Ma vie est couverte !

Et quand même un jour
J'entendrais l'amour
Sonner à ma porte,

Riant à ce nom,
Je dirais : "Non, non,
Que Dieu vous emporte !

Je vois sous vos fleurs
Que beaucoup de pleurs
Ont mouillé vos armes.

Je n'en suis plus là ;
Mon cœur, le voilà ;
Sans vous... mais sans larmes !"
