Du liebes, holdes, himmelsüßes Wesen,
o du mein theures, mein geliebtes Leben!
Du ahnest nicht, wie treu ich dir ergeben,
du kannst es nicht in meinen Blicken lesen.
Ich bin jetzt, was ich nimmer noch gewesen,
so froh, so still, so frei von wildem Streben.
Das neue Dasein, das du mir gegeben,
ein Räthsel ist's, ich kann es nimmer lösen.
Du selbst in deines Wesens holder Klarheit,
so sanft, so gut, in nie getrübtem Frieden,
scheinst oft aus meinem Traume mir geboren.
Zu schön für diese Erde wär' die Wahrheit!
Doch flieht auch dieser Traum, dann ist hienieden
auf ewig jede Freude mir verloren!

Tu estimada, encisadora criatura de dolcesa celestial,
oh tu vida meva caríssima, estimada!
No sospites pas com fidelment a tu jo m'he lliurat,
ni tampoc ho pots llegir en el meu esguard.
Ara estic com mai havia estat,
tan joiós, tan tranquil, lliure d'impetuós fatic.
La nova existència que tu m'has donat,
és una endevinalla que mai podré resoldre.
Tu mateixa, en l'encisadora claredat del teu ésser,
tan dolça, tan bona, en una pau mai torbada,
em sembles sovint nascuda dels meus somnis.
Massa bonica seria per aquest món la veritat!
Però si aquest somni s'esvaneix, llavors ací baix
tota la joia es perdrà per a mi eternament!
Tu estimada, encisadora criatura de dolcesa celestial!
