Chantez, rossignol, fleurissez, lilas ;
Sous les marronniers j'ai vu passer Berthe.
Son pied délicat rase l'herbe verte ;
Mon cœur amoureux vole sur ses pas.

Bonjour, les garçons, bonjour, les fillettes !
Chantez, rossignol, fleurissez, lilas ;
Je la fis danser au son des musettes.
Les arbres en fleur neigeaient sur nos têtes,
Les vieillards émus l'admiraient tout bas.

L'automne chassa les feuilles sans nombre ;
Fuyez, rossignols, adieu, frais lilas !
La cloche pleurait dans le clocher sombre ;
Auprès d'un cercueil je pleurais dans l'ombre.
Mon cœur désolé n'en guérira pas !
