by Karl Stieler (1842 - 1885)

Elisabeth
Language: German (Deutsch)
Der Abend sinkt, der Lenzwind weht,
Fort sind die Mannen;
Im Söller lehnt einsam Elisabeth
Vor den rauschenden Tannen.

Der Staufenkönig war ihr Gemahl,
Der ist geschieden -- --
Sie lugt hernieder -- um Wald und Thal
Schwebt Abendfrieden.

Der ist gesenkt in die kühle Gruft --
Und wer gewesen
Sein Weib, kann auch in Waldesduft
Nicht mehr genesen!

Öd ist das Reich, zerstreut das Heer
Und todt mein König --
Wie fand ich doch so viele Ehr',
Und Glück so wenig!
