by Theodor Şerbănescu (1839 - 1901)
Translation by Elisabeth Pauline Ottilie Luise zu Wied, Prinzessin (1843 - 1916), as Carmen Sylva

Ruhe
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Romanian (Română)
Vom grünen Ufer schau' ich hinunter;
Wie träge schlummert die breite Fluth.
Der Wind steht stille, der sonst so munter;
Nur Schweigen ringsum, die Welle ruht.

Gefühllos Alles vor meinen Blicken,
Nichts will sich rühren dort im Geäst.
Die Blätter schlafen und träumen und nicken,
Der Vogel schlummert im kleinen Nest.

O Fluch dem matten, dem trägen Frieden!
So heule, Sturm, doch mit wilder Lust!
Uns sei Orkan nur und Fluth beschieden,
Der öden Weite und meiner Brust!

Confirmed with Rumänische Dichtungen. Deutsch von Carmen Sylva. Mit Beiträgen von Mite Kremnitz, Dritte Auflage, Bonn, Verlag von Emil Strauß, 1889, page 324.
