O blieb' ich immerfort bei dir,
du lieber grüner Wald,
wo süßer Klang des Friedens mir
aus allen Zweigen schallt,
wo süßer Klang des Friedens
im Herzen widerhallt.
Und doch, wie pocht's mir in der Brust!
Was liegt mir nur im Sinn,
dass ich in aller meiner Lust
nicht so recht fröhlich bin?
Warum seh' ich so traurig
auf euch, ihr Knospen, hin?
Ihr seid gewelkt, weil ich euch trug,
was quält mich das so sehr?
Der Myrten blühen ja genug,
und Rosen noch viel mehr!
Er wäre doch recht töricht,
wenn ich nicht fröhlich wär'!
