by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798 - 1874)

Das Mädchen von der Heide
Language: German (Deutsch)
Du Mädchen von der Heide
in deinem dunklen Haar,
in deinem blauen Kleide
so schön und wunderbar.

Ich möcht' am Wege stehen
als Glockenblümelein,
dich fröhlich wandeln sehen
im Tau und Sonnenschein.

Ich möcht' als Falter leben
in Wiese, Feld und Hag,
ich möchte dich umschweben
den langen Sommertag.

Ich möcht' als Vogel fliegen
um dich, wohin du gehst,
auf Zweig und Ast mich wiegen,
da, wo du stille stehst.

Du Mädchen von der Heide,
du kannst wohl fröhlich sein,
und ich in meinem Leide,
ich wandle hier allein.

Note: Marschner's score has "auf Zweig und Ast mich wiegen" as the third line of the third stanza. Since it is also the third line of the fourth stanza and doesn't rhyme, we believe this to be a mistake and have not shown it above.
