Wandlung
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Wie ging er müd' des Wegs dahin,
Wie sah er mit betrübtem Sinn,
Daß Blatt um Blatt an seinen Bäumen
Verwelkt. Umsonst viel stolzes Träumen,
Umsonst sein Flehn um Sonnensegen,
Sie starben alle, trüber Regen
Fiel auf sie nieder Tag und Nacht
Mit steten Tropfens stiller Macht;
Da sieht er durch die lichten Kronen
Den großen Wolkenkönig thronen,
Und langsam fühlt er ein Begreifen
Der Seele goldne Früchte reifen.
Und wie er fern von Sonnen steht,
Faßt ihn ein jauchzendes Gebet:
O Herr vom hohen Wolkenturm,
So sende mir des Lebens Sturm!
