by Emanuel von Geibel (1815 - 1884)

Ist das Spiel des Wassermanns
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ist das Spiel des Wassermanns
Gestern aus der Flut erklungen,
Oder war es nur der Wind,
Der so wunderbar gesungen?

Bald wie ferner Orgelschall,
Bald wie Äolsharfen tönen,
Floß die Weise durch die Nacht,
Jauchzend nun und nun mit Stöhnen;

Wie wenn tiefe Schwermut singt
Von vergangnen sel'gen Stunden,
Wie wenn Inbrunst sich zu Tod
Bluten will aus süßen Wunden.

Und ich lag und dachte dein,
Und zum Traumbild ward mein Sehnen:
Übers wilde Meer zu dir
Flog ich mit den ziehnden Schwänen.
