Sehnsucht

O! wie's mein Herz zu dir doch drängt,
du Liebchen, hold und maienschön,
 und wie's die Seele mir umfängt,
dich teures Lieb' recht bald zu seh'n.

Die Tage schwinden langsam da,
zu langsam für der Seele Qual,
 und jeden Tag, ach! zählt' ich ja
wohl viele hunderttausendmal!

Ach Lieb', mir ist so bang um dich,
ich fürcht', ich halt' es lang nicht aus,
denn seh' ich nicht in Kurzem dich,
verlässt das Herz sein altes Haus,

Und fliegt nur dir, nur dir dann zu
und schmiegt sich deinem Herzen an,
dort findet's die ersehnte Ruh',
die nirgends sonst es finden kann!
