Mignonne voici les lilas Le ciel n'a pas encore, hélas ! Lessor de toute sa lumière, Mais il verse un charme subtil : Allons cueillir la fleur d'avril, La plus jolie et la première. A peine plus haut que le mur, Gais et curieux de l'azur, Vois les lilas lever la tête. Eclos d'un souffle durant peu, Ils offrent au ciel déjà bleu Leurs corolles comme une fête. Tu te hausseras pour mieux voir ; Tu diras : « Je veux en avoir. » Tes petits doigts cherchant querelle A la branche qui ne vient pas, Ce seront d'épiques combats A la pointe de ton ombrelle. A tous versant leurs frais parfums, Les lilas sont aussi communs Que le sont les plus douces choses. Chaque sentier nous en fait don, Et les collines de Meudon En sont, quinze jours, toutes roses. Pour le bonheur des citadins Ils embellissent les jardins De leurs grappes droites et gaies. Avant la fleur de l’églantier Brodant la marge du sentier, Les lilas montent dans les haies. Dimanche soir nous reviendrons Par le chemin des liserons Où la lune à terre étincelle, Rapportant comme les bourgeois De gros bouquets de fleurs des bois, Pendus au bout d’une ficelle. Les lilas viennent de s’ouvrir, Pour vivre à peine et défleurir Jusqu’à ce qu’un avril renaisse. Au parfum des lilas je veux Mêler l’odeur de tes cheveux Et la douceur de ta jeunesse.
