Tombé du ciel dans la mansarde,
Au chevet de mon lit étroit,
Le nez rouge et tremblant de froid,
La nuit, un ange me regarde,

Et dans l'ombre où mon cœur se musse,
Assis mélancoliquement,
J'aime à chercher mes sentiments
Comme un singe cherche ses puces.

Un cœur du passé se délivre,
Du présent ou de l'avenir,
Et ne veut plus se souvenir.
Que d'avoir oublié de vivre.
