Contrit, morne et dolent, j'espère en ta clémence.
Si mon deuil ne suffit à purger mon offense,
Que ta grâce y supplée et serve à mon erreur.

Mes esprits éperdus frissonnent de terreur,
Et, ne voyant salut que par la pénitence,
Mon coeur, comme mes yeux, s'ouvre à la repentance,
Et me hais tellement que je m'en fais horreur.

Je pleure le présent, le passé je regrette;
Je crains à l'avenir la faute que j'ai faite;
Dans mes rébellions je lis ton jugement.

Seigneur, dont la bonté nos injures surpasse,
Comme de père à fils uses-en doucement,
Si j'avais moins failli, moindre serait ta grâce.
