Durchblätterte jüngst ein altes Buch
Drin lag ein Sträusslein Flieder
Gepresst und vergilbt und verdorret ganz
Und doch erkannt ich's wieder.

Dort unten, an dem Gartenzaun
Dort schlang sich mein Arm um ihr Mieder
Dort haben wir selge Küsse getauscht
Dort unter dem duftenden Flieder.

Und als ich sie zuletzt gesehn
Da brach sie das Zweiglein Flieder
Und rief mir noch aus der Ferne zu
Du morgen sehn wir uns wieder.

Trocken halt ich die Blüth in der Hand,
Leis rollt die Thräne hernieder.
Mein Glück das ich einst so voll Freude fand
Verblasst wie dies Sträusslein vom Flieder.
