Aurons-nous point la paix quelquefois sur la terre ? 
Sur la terre aurons-nous si longuement la guerre, 
La guerre qui au peuple est un si pesant faix ?

Je ne vois que soudards, que chevaux et harnois, 
Je n'ois que deviser d'entreprendre et conquerre, 
Je n'ois plus que clairons, que tumulte et tonnerre 
Et rien que rage et sang je n'entends et ne vois.

Les princes aujourd'hui se jouent de nos vies, 
Et quand elles nous sont après les biens ravies 
Ils n'ont pouvoir ni soin de nous les retourner.

Malheureux sommes-nous de vivre en un tel âge, 
Qui nous laissons ainsi de maux environner,
