Du kleine grünumwachsne Quelle,
An der ich Chloe jüngst gesehn,
Dein Wasser war so still, so helle,
Und Chloes Bild darinn - so schön.
O, wenn sie sich nochmal am Ufer sehen läßt,
So halte du ihr schönes Bildniß vest.
Ich schleiche dann voll Liebe einsam hin,
Dem Bilde mein Gefühl zu klagen,
Denn, wenn ich bey ihr selber bin,
Dann, ach! dann kann ich ihr nichts sagen.
