by Ludwig Heinrich Christoph Hölty (1748 - 1776)

Minnehuldigung
Language: German (Deutsch)
Allbereits im Flügelkleide
Waren minnigliche Fraun
Meine liebste Augenweide,
Konnte nimmer satt mich schaun.

Ich vergaß der Vogelnester,
Warf mein Steckenpferd ins Gras,
Wann bey meiner lieben Schwester
Eine schöne Dirne saß.

Freute mich der schönen Dirne,
Ihres rothen Wangenpaars,
Ihres Mundes, ihrer Stirne,
Ihres blonden Lockenhaars.

Ließ Virgilen, ließ Oviden,
Gieng ein Mädchen auf dem Plan,
Ruhen, traun, in gutem Frieden,
Mich der preißlichen zu nahn.

Was ich weiland that als Knabe,
Werd ich wahrlich immer thun,
Bis ich werd', im kühlen Grabe,
Neben meinen Vätern ruhn.

Immer meine besten Weisen
Minniglichen Frauen weihn,
Immer Minn' und Weiber preisen,
Und mich ihrer Schöne freun.

Confirmed with Ludwig Christoph Heinrich Hölty's Sämtliche Werke kritisch und chronologisch herausgegeben von Wilhelm Michael, Erster Band, Weimar, Gesellschaft der Bibliophilen, 1914, page 127.

This is the original version of Hölty's Die frühe Liebe. It has first been published in a heavily reworked version by Johann Heinrich Voß; see below.
