Home from the fray
Language: English
The bells chime out, with song and shout,
The air is gaily ringing.
Bright of face to the marketplace,
The lasses and wives come singing.
In ev'ry street there's the tramp of feet,
The music of fife and drum,
Near and afar rings the wild "Hurrah!"
And the cry "They come, they come!"

Refrain
Hark, they come, 'tis the fife and the drum,
The lads from across the sea
They march along with a cheer and a song,
 A song of victory!

With smiles and tears for the long sad years,
The lasses their lads are meeting,
Bowed with care, but still with a pray'r,
The mothers their sons are greeting.
The colours fly in pride on high,
And a story of victory tell,
Cheers for those who are Home "Hurrah!"
And a tear for those who fell!

(Refrain)

Though hearts weep sore, for those no more,
But the world shall tell their story,
Brave to the end, their land to defend,
They died for their country's glory
They've dealt the foe a mighty blow
And the war is o'er and past
A cheer for the hearts of the brave, Hurrah!
That are home from the fray at last!

(Refrain)
