Non so se pur ti giunga
col vento del mattin voce d'amore;
se nella notte tormentosa e lunga
ti rattristi un pensier, ti frema il core.

Se, dentro gli occhi, celi
lampi di fede o di alterezza, ignoro:
se l'inferno tu schiuda o mi riveli
un paradiso di farfalle d'oro.

Ma so che a te d'accanto
m'involge un'onda di fatal magia;
so che, rapito nel tuo dolce incanto,
bello, è la vita non saper che sia.

E, spiri intorno blando
il vento o mugga la tempesta fiera,
bello è sfidar l'ignoto, susurrando
piano il tuo nome, quasi una preghiera!
