Du schwebst mir vor in stiller Nacht

Du schwebst mir vor in stiller Nacht,
Du bist mein holder Traum;
Und sanft mit Deiner Liebe Pracht 
Schmückst Du den dunklen Raum.
Und Alles tritt so schön heran
Und stillt des Herzens Schlag:
Wol mir, daß ich noch lieben kann, 
Und Sehnsucht fühlen mag.

Du lächelst mir, wenn über'm Wald 
Die erste Sonne scheint,
Und o! -- vergessen hab' ich bald,
Was ich so sehr beweint.
Denn was ich mir aufs Neu gewann,
Sagt mir der junge Tag:
Wol mir, daß ich noch lieben kann,
Und Sehnsucht fühlen mag.
 
Und Nacht und Tag in stillem Gang 
Ziehn meinem Blick vorbei,
Und Beides löst sich in Gesang 
Und giebt die Seele frei.
Dein liebes Auge schaut mich an,
Es lächeln Flur und Hag:
Wol mir, daß ich noch lieben kann,
Und Sehnsucht fühlen mag!
