by François Coppée (1842 - 1908)

Son charme
Language: French (Français)
Au premier regard, elle plaît,
Ma fine blonde au teint de rousse ;
Mais, seul, je sais combien elle est
Silencieuse, tendre et douce.

L’air anglais et mise avec goût,
La taille svelte et gracieuse,
Elle est exquise, mais surtout
Tendre, douce et silencieuse.

Ses yeux clairs sont de purs émaux,
Et mon désir s’y laissa prendre ;
Mais son vrai charme est dans ces mots :
Douce, silencieuse et tendre.

Confirmed with Arrière-saison, in Œuvres complètes de François Coppée, L. Hébert, libraire, 1888, Poésies, tome III (p. 240-241).
