by John Theodore Livingston Raynor (1909 - 1970)

They can't ration love
Language: English
They can ration our bacon,
They can ration our tea,
But they can't ration love!

We mayn't take snaps of fortresses,
We mayn't swim in the sea,
But the stars still shine above.

We shan't see an onion
Or an orange for a while,
We shan't have many holidays
But still there's cause to smile,
For they can't ration love.

Love is like the stars above,
You can't black out their light.
They illuminate the night,
And so they can't ration love.

They can ration our petrol,
They can ration or food,
But the can't ration love!

They can question our identity,
It's all for our good,
But the stars still shine above.

One dog must help another
little doggie o'er the stile,
For life is very hard today,
But still we've cause to smile.
For they can't ration love.

Love is like the stars above,
You can't black out their light.
They illuminate the night,
And so they can't ration love.
